“Chris didn’t come to know unconditional love willingly—it was forced upon him by circumstance. As he’s battled cancer, little by little, he’s been forced to relinquish his independence . . . his control of the situation. When Chris finally surrendered and trusted Charlie to care for his every need, that’s when he finally found unconditional love. At last, Chris understood that unconditional love carries no shield—that it’s based on trust.”

― Charlie Bynar, Through the Darkness: A Story of Love from the Other Side. Bynar is an author and international artist whose David Bowie portrait was featured in the Victoria and Albert Museum's five-year traveling exhibition, David Bowie Is. Additionally, after her son died, Charlie founded Isaac's Ant Foundation and installed ant exhibits across the country in his memory including at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. She published her first children's book, Charlie and the Rainbow Trout, in 2021. Through the Darkness is her first work of narrative nonfiction.

It’s my sixtieth trip around the sun this year. I share some wisdom, some photography, some poetry and prayers for the journey ahead.
